Thank you very much for reading, Dinah. I tried doing the same thing for a bit when I was consuming the content of growth gooroos, but I felt anxiety doing that. I was holding back on saying things because it wasn't in the niche.
I decided if it limits my reach then so be it, but I wanted to express myself in a way that was fun and exciting.
Online privacy has more to do with what you share, then who's products you are using. When i looked at how many products I was using it turned out that Google owned 64% of them giving them a huge view into my world. I changed providers on many things and now Google only has a view int 18% of my world. The story comes out Tuesday. So watch for it. I give concrete tips on how people can do this for themselves.
Thank you for reading, Neela. I tried doing that and I wasn't happy doing it. I was censoring myself to stay on brand, and it was becoming difficult to keep up with the different niches. I said the hell with this!
When I joined LinkedIn in mid 2022 I tried it for a few months but it felt miserable. It’s also one of the reasons why I decline doing podcasts because I like saying what’s on my mind and sometimes I throw in a few cuss words. It offends people but it’s my personality.
I agree with what you wrote. Growth and creative challenges should supersede the predictability of the niche.
Having said that, I can understand how scary it can be to step out of the thing that's made you wealthy and famous on the Internet because of how it can affect your income.
It takes a unique artist like Madonna or David Bowie to effect multiple image and music changes through your career and continue influencing culture.
Sometimes it seems like you have to get “there” with a niche, and then branch out once you’re established, unless you already have a platform — like Yoko Ono who can then explore anything, music, book arts, installation, and she’ll have an audience at the ready.
Sometimes it can feel that folks have too short an attention span to not have what you’re trying to do be very obvious, clear, easy to understand.
You use Yoko Ono and your comment made me think of Stallone😺 he's known as an action star but during pandemic he unveiled paintings he'd been painting for decades, revealing this highly cultured side of him.
I finished a video where I reference Ashley Laurence who is know ln as an actor, but has been painting for long time as well.
Thank you! I refuse to niche Dow for this very reason! I am made up of so many experiences and so is my work! Thanks for articulating it so well.

Yes. I feel exactly the same. This week I spoke about my sports injury, next week's post talks about how you can gain back some online privacy.
I hope it wasn't too serious, and won't keep you off sports for too long.
I'd love to read your post about online privacy. We need more of that. Though I guess one way to do that is by not sharing too much🙂
Here is my story on my shoulder. https://dinahbeingme.substack.com/p/the-pause-that-protects

Thank you Dinah. I'll read it later.
I thought it was cool how stuff Google gives away to use, but from your reply I see the dark motivation behind this giving of free tools.
I'll be in the lookout for it!
Love the octopus metaphor.
I am not a fan of niching down and have always struggled with the idea of being one-dimensional for clarity’s sake. Not my style, Jay.
Have a good weekend.

That's another aspect of this that's frustrating. Havung to be careful what you say if you'll be on YouTube or other platforms.
They talk authenticity but real authenticity is not encouraged 100 percent.
100%
which leads me to believe most people offering this silly advice often doesn’t know what it means lol
You could be right😎👍🏾
That happened to me too, Neela. I believed the advice of gooroos with 100,000s of followers but I felt miserable doing it.
I keep telling others that I am okay growing slowwwwwwwww.
A bigger audience means more time to be spent online lol
I can’t do that …
Happy Saturday Jay….
I guess we all are. If we want to speed this up let's post about growing on Substack 😂😂
Have a great weekend!
LOL
Those notes and articles do well don’t they?
Hope you are having a good weekend thus far.
A few more hours left.
Happy Monday in advance Jay.
Happy Monday and a great week ahead 🙌🏾
Let's grow more followers this week.
cheers to that Jay
Thank you so much and Happy Monday to you as well.
I find an article I love, then lo and behold you have already commented! I think we might be soul sisters.
I would be honored Dinah 🤗
Have an amazing weekend.
I love that my post is bringing people together! 🙂😁
It’s all YOU & your posts.
Thank you, Neela. I hope you're enjoying your weekend.
I am thank you.
I hope you are too.
I love that octopus 🐙❤️
Me too! So colorful and powerful looking.
I wrote an article exploring similar questions — it’s curious to consider what makes us distinct and what human https://open.substack.com/pub/jilljacobs/p/how-do-to-everything-and-still-be?r=5b70c2&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web&showWelcomeOnShare=false

I agree when I always thought of inching down, I ended up with analysis paralysis ... This eventually meant no output.
Very similar to me when I tried it, Yara. I felt anxious and frustrated because I was holding back. I couldn't with that tactic 🤬
